Organize a March to the Polls in Your Community

Mississippi, this is our moment. Our ancestors marched so we could vote, and now we march to vote. The Mississippi Poor People's Campaign is looking for organizers who will lead their neighbors, congregations, and families to the polls together. Whether your people qualify to vote absentee in person or will vote on Election Day at their assigned precincts, we want to help you organize together.

Power Is Not Given. It Is Taken.

A moral movement cannot sit still. We are calling on faith leaders, organizers, students, elders, and neighbors to lead marches to the polls across Mississippi. Walk with people who qualify for absentee voting to the Circuit Clerk's office, or organize neighbors headed to their assigned precincts on Election Day. Tell us what materials, training, and other support would help you organize.

Two ways to march

We Are Not Waiting to Be Counted.

Choose one march or lead both. The dates below are organizing opportunities, not confirmed local march events. Confirm your meeting point and arrangements before inviting participants.

Option A

Absentee Voting March to the Circuit Clerk's Office

Lead voters who qualify for absentee voting to cast their ballots in person at your county Circuit Clerk's office before Election Day.

  • Sat, Oct 248:00 a.m. to noon. Saturday march day.
  • Sat, Oct 318:00 a.m. to noon. Last day to vote absentee in person.
  • WeekdaysMonday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., through October 30.
Option B

Election Day March to Your Precinct

Organize neighbors headed to the same assigned polling place on Election Day. A church or organization may include voters from several precincts; each voter must go to their own assigned location.

  • Tue, Nov 3Election Day, 2026. Polls are open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Your precinctVoters must vote at their assigned polling place. Bring a photo ID.
Absentee voting in Mississippi

Who Can Vote Absentee in Person

Mississippi limits absentee voting to voters who qualify under state law. The examples below are not a complete eligibility test; confirm your situation with your county Circuit Clerk. Read the official eligibility rules.

  • You are 65 years of age or older.
  • A temporary or permanent physical disability makes Election Day voting a substantial hardship or danger to you or others.
  • You must be at work, or on call, during polling hours on Election Day.
  • You will be away from your county on Election Day for any reason.
  • Certain students, educators, and their spouses or dependents qualify when studies or employment require them to be away. Specific residency conditions apply.
  • Additional categories cover certain family members accompanying hospitalized people with physical disabilities, and certain members or employees of Mississippi's congressional delegation and their families. Ask the clerk about the exact requirements.

Bring a photo ID. The clerk will ask your reason for voting absentee. If you are not sure you qualify, contact your county Circuit Clerk or visit Y'all Vote from the Mississippi Secretary of State.

Plan ahead

Keep candidate campaigning outside the restricted area near polling-place entrances. Coordinate march staging with local election officials and review the Secretary of State's polling-place guidance.

Keep access clear

Do not block entrances or gather where only voters and election officials may be present. Arrange an accessible waiting area with local officials; review the 30-foot entrance guidance.

Protect voter choice

Confirm absentee eligibility with the Circuit Clerk. Respect ballot privacy and never pressure anyone about their vote. If someone needs assistance, ask election officials about lawful assistance procedures.
